What Is Claude Marketplace? Who Can Actually Buy What — and How It Compares to ChatGPT Apps

Short answer: Claude Marketplace is three different things under one URL, and only one of them involves spending money — and that one is enterprise-only. On September 23 Anthropic rebuilt it as 'one place to discover plugins, agents, and services from our partners': a directory of 2,000+ connectors and plugins (Slack, Notion, Google, Microsoft — free to add on any plan), a shelf of Claude-powered products you buy with committed Anthropic spend (Cursor, CrowdStrike, Harvey, Snowflake — enterprise contracts only, 'Request to buy'), and a roster of 88 consulting partners (Accenture, BCG, Deloitte). It isn't new. The buy-software leg launched March 6 in 'limited preview,' and the X card for claude.com/marketplace still says so. What's new is the consolidation — and the ambition it signals.

So the honest version for the searches people are typing: 'Claude Marketplace pricing' has no answer for individuals, because nothing on it is priced for them. If you're on Pro or Max, the Marketplace is a nicer front door to connectors you could already add in Settings. If you run enterprise procurement, it's a way to buy Cursor seats or CrowdStrike's Charlotte AI out of the Anthropic budget you've already committed — which is the whole point.

How it got here (the part Wednesday's post skipped)

  • March 6, 2026: Claude Marketplace launches in 'limited preview' with six partners — GitLab, Harvey, Lovable, Replit, Rogo, Snowflake. VentureBeat: interested enterprises 'should reach out to their Anthropic account team,' and Anthropic 'will manage invoicing for partner spend.'
  • September 2: CrowdStrike announces its Falcon platform is coming to the Marketplace.
  • September 9: Anthropic adds CrowdStrike, Cursor, Factory, Gamma, and Vercel — 'enterprises can now use their Anthropic spend commitment to buy more Claude-powered products and agents.'
  • September 23: the hub. Connectors, plugins, and the Claude Partner Network move in alongside the buy program; the agents shelf grows to 15 (Replit has quietly dropped off). The committed-spend leg is still 'Request to buy' — this isn't a general-availability moment for it.

Does Anthropic take a cut? How do you get listed?

Commission: Anthropic's pages don't say. The only statement on record is via Digital Commerce 360 in March: Anthropic 'does not currently plan to take a commission on transactions completed through the marketplace.' No revenue split, fees, or payout terms are published, and the Software Directory Terms contain no payment clause. Treat 'no commission' as Anthropic's March position, reported secondhand.

  • To list a connector: the submission docs — you need a Team or Enterprise org, OAuth 2.0 for anything authenticated, a privacy policy ('missing or incomplete privacy policies result in immediate rejection'), and every tool tagged read-only or destructive.
  • To list a plugin: claude.com/docs/plugins/submit — public GitHub repo required. Anthropic runs 'basic automated review'; an 'Anthropic Verified' badge means a human looked harder.
  • To sell a product: the partner waitlist — 'our team will follow up to discuss eligibility.' No self-serve path.
  • To be a service partner: apply to the Claude Partner Network.

Is Claude Marketplace safe? What Anthropic's rules actually say

Stricter than you'd expect for the connectors, vaguer for the agents. The Software Directory Policy bans exactly the things that make third-party AI tools dangerous: software 'must not collect extraneous conversation data, even for logging purposes,' 'must not query or extract data from Claude's memory, chat history, conversation summaries, or user-generated or uploaded files,' and 'must not contain hidden, obfuscated, or encoded instructions.' Software that moves money is 'unsupported.' Submitters sign seven acknowledgments including prompt-injection handling. The caveat is Anthropic's own: 'there are limits to what Anthropic is able to review — you should only install plugins from developers you trust.' For the enterprise agents shelf, 'enterprise-ready partners' is the whole published vetting statement.

Our read

Wednesday's post was a rebrand of a procurement product as a platform, and that's the interesting part. OpenAI built a consumer app ecosystem that can't sell digital goods; Anthropic built a B2B store where the currency is money customers have already promised to spend on Claude. Analysts called that lock-in in March — Pareekh Jain: 'once an enterprise has committed to Anthropic spend and multiple partner tools running through Claude, migrating to another model becomes operationally difficult' — and the September hub makes the strategy legible: get the connectors people use every day, the software their company buys, and the consultants who install it all onto one page with Claude's name on it. For an individual subscriber, nothing changed this week except a better directory. For the industry, Anthropic just told you what it thinks the distribution fight is — not app stores, but invoices. Our Claude review notes the Marketplace where it matters: connectors are the reason Claude's agent features reach Gmail, Slack, and GitHub at all.
